Denver City Lax coach Gregory Crichlow selected National Coach of the Year by Up2Us
Denver City Lax coach Gregory Crichlow was honored last week in Washington D.C. as one of four youth coaches from around the country selected as National Coaches of the Year. Up2Us, an international coalition of sports-based youth development organizations, hosted a summit meeting in Washington at which time the coaches were recognized for their work with communities and youth athletes.

Tell me about Denver City Lax.
· Denver City Lax
is a Colorado non-profit organization developing a sports-based youth development program that currently involves about 100 elementary and middle school students playing lacrosse in underserved neighborhoods in the Denver metro area.

· We are generally supported by private donations from individuals in the lacrosse, business and educational communities of Denver, foundation grants and volunteers.

How much does playing for Denver City Lax cost?
· Players can sign up with Denver City Lax for no cost; however, we encourage players to pay $25 each if they can.
What if I don’t have equipment?
· Denver City Lax provides all players who do not have equipment with: helmets, stick, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, goggles and mouth guard. All equipment is given out to players on a loan basis.
What if I have never played lacrosse?
· City Lax welcomes players from all playing levels. We are about growing the game, and offering it to individuals of all skill types.
What is the time commitment?
· City Lax requires full participation from all members. Practices are usually twice a week, and games are once a week each Saturday. Practices begin the first week of March and the season goes through the first week of June.
Where are practices held and when?
· For the 2011 season, City Lax’s home field will be located at Fred Thomas Park on 26
th & Quebec. Practices will be held at both Fred Thomas Park and Stedman Elementary (29
th & Dexter) depending on the team. Practices will be twice a week, on MW, WF, TTH, depending on the team, typically between 4:00-5:30 or 4:30-6:00 pm.
Who are the coaches?
· City Lax coaches are former high school and college players that volunteer their time to coach both boy’s and girl’s teams. This season City Lax has a group of coaches that played or attended DU, CU, Colorado College, Dartmouth, Washington and Lee, Hampden-Sydney, Whittier, University of North Carolina, Colorado School of Mines, Haverford and Boston College.
· City Lax coaches are US Lacrosse members, and participate in a coaching certification program.
How do I re-sign up if I am a returning player?
· All returning City Lax players need to submit new registration forms. These forms will be available the first week of practice and can filled out at that time.
What if I am a new player to City Lax?
· Let us know you are interested. New players can contact Denver City Lax at

· Practice begins the first week of March and generally formal registration will occur at that time.
What if the grade level I am in is not offered?
· While we hope to eventually have teams at every grade level between 2
nd and 8
th grade we currently have teams from the 3
rd, 5
th , 6
th and 7
th grades. Frequently, players can play up a grade level (i.e. 6
th grader plays up on 7
th grade team), or down a grade depending on the competitive level of the team. Our goal and the league's goal is to get kids on the field. Please contact us if you have specific questions and we will do our best to place every player on a team that fits.
Where do players live?
· City Lax players come from a wide range of Denver neighborhoods. While many City Lax families live or attend school in the Park Hill area, City Lax has a history of working with numerous players that live throughout the metro area including Park Hill, Montbello, Whittier, Green Valley, Skyland, Clayton, Cole, Five Points and other neighborhoods.
What is the 2011 spring schedule for City Lax?
· Practice begins the first week of March.
· Games are played on Saturdays, beginning April 2. The season consists of about 8 games played in April and May. The league releases the official game schedule for Saturdays in mid/late March.
· City Lax teams will play in the CYLA Championship weekend on May 21-22, a Saturday and Sunday at Dick’s Park.
· City Lax teams may also play in the Rocky Mountain Warrior Jamboree on June 3-5.
